Hello Guy's biggrin

Long time not seen AGAIN! I know i know.. please forgive me pray

I wanted to share this with you guys, since we all are still intrested in some progress news. (i hope)

http://www.lfs.net/
http://www.virtualr.net/live-fo....reviews

Hope that S3 is still coming someday, still looking very much forward to it and deffinently to this update im looking forward.

Hope GTR servers will run this track (hint) biggrin

See you soon on the track??

------------------------------------------------------------
Dear LFS Racers,

Today we release an new update of Live for Speed with 3D support and
announce another version that is coming soon with a much improved
Westhill track.

Version 0.6F:

Available today and well tested by forum visitors, this new update
supports 3D devices including TVs, projectors, headsets and the Oculus
Rift. While developing it, we also moved onto DirectX 9 which allows
for better graphical effects in future while still allowing LFS to run
on older versions of Windows and on Linux (using the Wine compatibility
software). This version remains fully compatible with 0.6E with many
improvements and fixes.

Read more about the patch and how to get it on the 0.6F information page.

Westhill Update:

Available soon... as the development for S3 has been taking some time,
we thought it would be good to update something for our existing license
holders. The best thing to update was the Westhill track which was
always sparse and underdeveloped. The International configuration has
been improved in many places, particularly in the twisty sequence of
bends in the far corner which is now more challenging. There is a new
National configuration, bearing off from the International track after
the first right and left bends, involving some interesting gradient
changes and technical bends. The scenery has been developed to a higher
level of detail and you can drive around the access roads in the open
configurations.

You can see more images of the new track on our screenshots page.

The configurations are complete and good to drive. At this point Eric
is still finishing some buildings and filling some holes in the scenery.
Scawen is making some improvements and optimisations to deal with the
higher level of detail. We expect to release this version for testing
in a few weeks, but remember that sometimes interesting things can come
up that make things take a little longer than planned.

Further Progress:

After the Westhill update, Eric will continue with the S3 tracks he has
been working on. Scawen will continue with the new tyre model. The new
tyres currently feel good to drive but some work needs to be done on
heat, pressure, friction, tyre load sensitivity and wear which are all
closely linked.

I'm just happy they finally upgraded LFS from directx8 to directx9. Now I can record videos with a wider variety of software. My favorite recording program didn't recognise dx8 games. Now it does work with LFS.

As far as the 3D implementation, that's great news for those that get their hands on an Oculus Rift, and I've heard from guys that have used the rift on LFS that they did a great job with the fov compared to other sims like iRacing. They say that it really feels like it's your arms on the wheel. So that's great for anyone who gets a Rift. I might pick one up one day, provided they release a higher resolution model and the price is right.

As for Westhill, well that's great news for guys who enjoy S2 racing, but as a guy who just races on demo I'm not excited about it. I'll probably drive around on it for 10 minutes or so when it's released, but then I'll go right back to Blackwood where the majority of racers are. I do feel bad for the guys who got their start back when S2 was thriving, and fell in love with S2 content. They seem to be without a home until they learn to accept demo racing, or something happens to bring S2 racing back to life.

If they want to release S2 content that would actually get everyone off the demo servers, it would have to be an awesome car like a Nissan Skyline or something (what's so exciting about a VW Scirocco?), or an awesome track like Laguna Seca or Nordschliefe. Or at least something bold like that. If they did that I'd renounce demo racing as would everyone else. Something tells me that an update to an old S2 track isn't going to convince the majority of LFS racers to leave Blackwood.

I'd be more excited to see an update that affects XFG/XRG BL1 racing - as that is where all the action is online. Perhaps rain, with working windshield wipers and rain tires? Or night time racing so the headlights actually serve a purpose.. or upgraded sound effects? Something that improves the XFG/XRG BL1 racing experience that 99% of racers are currently in love with rather than some update on an S2 track nobody pays attention to.

But overall I don't care if they never change a thing, I love LFS the way it is, sure they could improve upon it, but if they don't it's still the most fun online racing experience out there. I'm more concerned that in an effort to improve something, that they'll accidentally ruin something. For instance, if they change the physics or ffb, it might end up feeling crappy like Assetto Corsa or something. LFS feels really good, you can tell when you go from gripping to slipping, it just works. If it ain't broke - don't fix it. Of course, there's a chance they could improve upon it, but it's hard to improve something that already feels so good.

Hey Smoke & Sin biggrin

How are you guys?

I am one of those racers who is really having the focus on S2 and S3 and feels its a shame from LFS to let the developing take so much time. Althougt im super happy to read the progress on the tracks and more biggrin Cant wait for more new content!

I would play if there was a active GTR server without restrictions like the old AMG days happy

Greets, Jack

Sin, should we make a reunion of AMG for in September/October or something?
I guess we or you :P can retrieve all email adress's from registerd users on this forum.
Than we could email the AMG members and ask if they want to join 1 evening of a reunion on the AMG GTR Server?

I would deffinently be there and cancel even a wedding for a evening like that haha
(No im not getting married, dont worry)

We did try something similar about a year ago, but it was a flop... There's just to few people interested in LFS S2 these days - All the hype about S3 (And then not appearing) has waned peoples spirit sad

Hey Jack, nice to meet you buddy! I know of a racing sim that [AMG]guys play that is so much like LFS...  ... that it IS LFS lol. It's called [AMG]demo servers. biggrin
You're always welcome to join those of us [AMG]guys who race on [AMG]GTi MotorSport and [AMG]GTi ProSport regularly. [AMG][WAYNE], [AMG][Heavykick], [AMG][JJ], [AMG][Cosmo], [AMG][TeoZ], and I usually race from 4pm EST - 12:00 EST on Fridays and Saturdays, We call it 'Race Weekend' - Hope to see you out there! It may be hard to get in because the server stays full - but keep trying and you'll get in eventually.
There's a lot of good racing on Sundays as well with the ClubR guys etc, but Sunday is Monday for Wayne and I usually don't race Sundays. If you want to schedule a race, here's my email:   oldstarscream@yahoo.com

LFS is getting REALLY good advertisement with the Oculus.
They are first on the website of Oculus by the highest rating for using this Oculus with the game.

Come and race with us on the Demo server sometime Jack - it's great fun most of the time, even though the grids are smaller than the GTR races of AS3 wink
